La madera que se utiliza es roble, el cual tiene una enorme cantidad de tipos, para que un \u00e1rbol de estos sea \u00fatil para cortar y fabricar barriles, debe ser un roble de crecimiento lento, tener al menos 80 a\u00f1os y ser secado al aire libre por 18 meses. Posteriormente, de su madera se pueden manufacturar 5 barriles, que a su vez constan de 32 a 33 piezas, tablas o duelas. Los dos tipos de roble m\u00e1s utilizados son el Roble Americano (<em>Quercus Alba<\/em>) y el Roble Europeo (<em>Quercus Robur)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La madera de roble es ideal para el a\u00f1ejamiento debido a su qu\u00edmica intr\u00ednseca: celulosa y hemicelulosa que dan color, caramelo y dulce; taninos que aportan astringencia, fragancia, suavidad y adem\u00e1s facilitan la oxidaci\u00f3n; y lignina, que es la responsable de mezclar sabores y dar complejidad al whiskey.
